Reno Omokri, a former media aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has congratulated Nigerian singer Tems for winning the 2025 Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance.
Tems clinched the award for her song ‘Love Me Jeje’ at the star-studded ceremony held on Sunday at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. She triumphed over a competitive lineup that included ‘Tomorrow’ by Yemi Alade, ‘MMS’ by Asake featuring Wizkid, ‘Sensational’ by Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay and ‘Higher’ by Burna Boy.
In a congratulatory message shared on social media, Omokri celebrated the 29-year-old, saying: “Congratulations, Tems, and thank you for bringing the Best African Music Performance Grammy back to Nigeria.”
Omokri also took the opportunity to throw a subtle jab at Davido, referencing the singer’s controversial 2024 statement during a US interview where he described Nigeria as being in “shambles.”
“It is so delightful that a proud Nigerian who always speaks well of her country has achieved the rare honour of being a double Grammy winner. We are happy for and with you, Tems. If only others can learn from you, they may have their own Grammy to boast of,” Omokri added.
Tems’ win continues to solidify her global status as a trailblazing artist. This marks her second Grammy victory, further cementing her reputation as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated musical talents.
