A retired US Army colonel Wisdom Osagiede has announced his interest to contest the 2023 presidential election.
Addressing a news conference on Thursday, Osagiede promised security of lives and property and revamping the economy as his main focus.
The presidential aspirant noted that he would not condone nepotism and favouritism in any form.
He also promised to end insurgency, abductions, banditry and other crimes within his first year in office.
“As a war veteran with 30 years experience in the US who have worked with different international non-governmental organisations (NGOs), I can solve the problems Nigeria is faced with,” he said.
“I am familiar with the problems in Nigeria and this is the right time to step in. The US is the best in administration and as a good administrator, I shall deploy the experience to fix the country.”
Osagiede said that he was joining the race under the All Progressives Congress because of the numerous achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Osagiede also promised to tackle rising unemployment among Nigerian youths, if elected into office.
“Until every single Nigerian can afford good health, we will still be struggling,” he said.
The retired officer will have to ward off challenge for the party’s ticket from APC chieftain Bola Tinubu who is currently favoured by many to emerge as APC candidate.
