Former vice-presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has described the act of Rev. Sr. Henrietta Alokha, principal of Bethlehem Girls College, Abule Ado, Lagos, as heroic.
Sis. Alokha died trying to rescue the boarding pupils whose school was among several buildings affected by the explosion on Sunday.
In a tweet on Monday, Mr Obi, a proud Catholic, hailed the late cleric, saying she put her life on the line to save her pupils.
“When it mattered most, Rev Sr Henrietta Alokha, Principal of Bethlehem Girls College, Abule Ado, Lagos, heroically put her life on the line to rescue her students in the Sunday explosion, in Lagos,” Obi said.
“Sadly she lost her life in the process when the caving roof fell on her. May her soul and that of all those who died in the tragedy rest in peace. Amen.”
According to the Staff Officer, Western Naval Command, Oladele Daji, injured pupils are receiving treatment at the Navy Hospital, while those who have fully recovered would be discharged soon.
