An online #SaveMayowa campaign to raise funds for her treatment became the subject of controversy after Nollywood actress, Toyin Aimakhu, accused the patient’s family of scamming Nigerians.
The allegation escalated after popular blogger, Linda Ikeji, published a story which also labelled the crowdfunding campaign a scam.
It took the intervention of the police to resolve the controversy, after which Mayowa was able to finally travel to South Africa.
