Twitter users have appeared unimpressed with the company’s plan to introduce its own version of Stories called ‘Fleets’.
Twitter said on Wednesday that it would place the new feature on trial in Brazil, letting users post ephemeral content to its social network for the first time.
Unlike tweets, Twitter’s new Fleets can’t receive likes, replies or retweets. They will also disappear entirely after 24 hours.
Fleets are not non-public, just a little less accessible. You could visit someone’s public Twitter profile and tap to view their Fleets even if you do not follow them.
But their Fleet won’t circulate Twitter’s network, show up in Search or Moments, and it cannot be embedded on an external website.
First popularised by Snapchat, you can now find a version of Stories across Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube, and others.
Twitter users have fumed at the proposed feature with the hashtag RIPTwitter.
