Actress Rita Edochie has publicly defended social media influencer VeryDarkMan amid allegations regarding his sexuality.
Taking to her Instagram account on Friday, Rita shared a video of the influencer dancing to Fela Anikulapo-Kuti’s ‘Basket Mouth’ and addressed the controversy head-on.
Without mentioning names, Rita said, “IF WHAT YOU ARE ACCUSING HIM OF IS TRUE, THEN YOU ARE ALSO G@Y AND YOU’RE EVEN MORE HYPOCRITICAL BY TRYING TO CALL OUT SOMEONE YOU COMMIT SAME CRIME WITH.”
Rita stated that VeryDarkMan had openly admitted to doing regrettable things in the past due to financial struggles but stressed that he has since changed.
The actress drew parallels with people who have committed serious crimes but later reformed.
She asked, “ARE YOU SAYING THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TO CAUTION THOSE WHO STEAL AND ROB CURRENTLY, TELLING THEM THERE ARE BETTER WAYS OF LIFE? WHY CAN’T BYGONES BE BYGONES?”
Rita also unequivocally debunked the rumour, asserting, “HE WAS NEVER G@Y MUCH AS HE HAS CONFESSED ABOUT THE KIND OF LIFE HE LIVED, HAVING REALIZED THAT IT WAS NOT THE RIGHT WAY OF LIFE.”
In her closing statement, she expressed doubt about the authenticity of the allegations, accusing critics of trying to silence VeryDarkMan.
“YOU ALL WANT TO DEVISE MEANS OF SILENCING HIM BUT NONE OF YOU ARE CAPABLE OF SHUTTING HIM UP,” she alleged.
Earlier on Friday, media personality Destiny Ezeyim, professionally known as Radiogad, shared a controversial post involving an unidentified man who claimed that VeryDarkMan is gay.
According to the man, he and his “rich Abuja gay friends” used to give VeryDarkMan substantial amounts of money to visit Abuja and spend time with them. This post has sparked debate and backlash online.
