Actress Rita Edochie has intensified her campaign for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In an Instagram post on Thursday, January 20 the actress shared a video of the IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu in court saying, “I said Biafrans must smile on the last day, it is a question of time.”
Rita, a staunch supporter of Kanu and the IPOB sit-at-home-order, has been calling for the release of the IPOB leader since his arrest in June 2021.
On December 25, 2021, the movie star expressed sadness that the Biafra agitator spent Christmas in custody.
In a post on her Instagram page, she wrote: “Today is Chrismas and Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu is still not free right?”
She went on to vent her anger at the Federal Government for not releasing Kanu.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Government on Wednesday, January 19 re-arraigned the Nnamdi Kanu on amended 15-count charges.
Mr. Kanu showed up in court with the same Fendi outfit that Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered he should no longer wear for his hearing.
Nyako had on Tuesday directed the Department of State Services (DSS) to allow Kanu to have a change of clothes after complaints by the defendant’s lead counsel Mike Ozekhome that he was being kept in solitary confinement.
Kanu has been wearing the same Fendi clothes since he was arrested.
At the hearing on Wednesday, prosecution counsel Shuaibu Labaran claimed Kanu chose to wear his designer Fendi clothes.
“My lord, based on your order yesterday, we provided the defendant with a new orthopedic mattress, pillows and blankets. As for his appearance, he chose to wear this particular one because he said that it is designers,” he said.
Mr. Ozekhome denied the allegation, saying “My lord, what happened was that by the time proceedings ended yesterday, and because it was not his visiting day, we were not able to pass to him some clothes we obtained for him.”
Kanu pleaded not guilty to the 15 charges bordering on treasonable felony and terrorism.
