Actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) has celebrated his colleague Omoni Oboli’s birthday with a controversial photo of them sharing a kiss on a movie set.

Omoni, who turned a year older on Tuesday, posted a video from her birthday shoot on Instagram.

In the clip, she appeared joyful, dressed in white and surrounded by colourful balloons on a white bed.

She captioned the video:
“Happy birthday OMoney 🎉🎉🎉
So blessed and fiercely grateful!
Through it all, you have remain faithful Lord!
All that I am, all I will ever be, I give to you.
Thank you for the love besties! I love you all so much.”

RMD joined in the celebration by posting a photo from Love Is War(2019) in which he and Omoni shared a kiss.

He wrote:
“Happy birthday STARGIRL!!!
I can’t wait for our next round of movies.”

The post sparked backlash from fans who felt the image was inappropriate, especially considering Omoni is married.

One follower commented, “Of all the countless photos of Omoni Oboli you chose to use this as a birthday picture? This isn’t nice Sir. It’s wrong…”

Another added, “Una Dey get mind for this social media….. out of all the pictures in the world. Na this one you see wish person wife…”

“Na person wife u hold like that de wish am happy birthday. Nawa o,” another wrote. One simply said, “Person wife.”

This isn’t the first time the kiss scene has drawn criticism.

In March 2021, Omoni came under fire after a troll slammed her for kissing RMD in the film despite being married.

Reacting at the time, Omoni posted a screenshot of the comment on Instagram and wrote:
“These are the issues…how do we educate her now? Oh sorry it was a question! What a shame?

“I’m playing a prostitute in my next BANGER!”

Love Is War was directed and co-produced by Omoni.

She played the role of Hankuri Philips, while RMD starred as her husband, Dimeji Philips.
