Dutch icon, Arjen Robben, has announced his retirement from international football after his country failed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Robben scored both goals as the Netherlands defeated Sweden 2-0 on Tuesday night.
But the victory was a little too late for Oranje, who finished in third place behind France and Sweden.
“It’s a good time to pass the torch to the next generation,” he said after the game.
Robben’s 14-year international career has been full of success.
He was a key player for the Dutch as they finished as runners-up at the World Cup in 2010 before coming third in Brazil three years ago.
Robben ranks amongst the very best Dutch players of all-time having racked up 37 strikes from 96 games.
In terms appearances, he’s the ninth most-capped and his country’s fourth topscorer behind Robin van Persie, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Patrick Kluivert.
