Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has set his sight on preparing for a clash with South Africa instead of African champions, Cameroon.
Nigeria will square-off against Bafana Bafana in June in an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier before facing the Indomitable Lions two months later.
Many soccer enthusiasts have called on the German manager to intensify preparations ahead of the double-header with the Cameroonians in a FIFA World Cup qualifier owing to their impressive showing at the recent AFCON.
But the 63-year-old tactician insists his major priority, for now, is to tame the South Africans.
“We are not thinking too far ahead of the World Cup games against Cameroon later in the year,” Rohr told BBC Sport.
“These two friendly matches in England will help us prepare for South Africa in June.
“We have to take it one step at a time, first we focus on South Africa then we start to look at Cameroon.”
Nigeria has missed out on the last two editions of the biennial tourney and will be hoping to avoid a repeat in the next version hosted by Cameroon.
Rohr’s team will play two friendlies in March against Senegal and Burkina Faso in readiness for South Africa.
