A preliminary autopsy report on late Ronke Shonde, allegedly killed by her husband in the Egbeda area of Lagos, did not establish a link between her death and the injury marks on her body.
The report, which is said to be inconclusive, was carried out at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH)
It did not relate the death of the mother-of-two to the bruises on her face.
Lekan Shonde, a dock worker in the Apapa area, who is now in police custody, denied complicity in Ronke’s death, saying he only slapped her that night.
He instead accused his late wife of sleeping with one Kayode, the general manager of a publishing company where she worked as the human resources manager.
A source on Tuesday told PUNCH that autopsy report was still being compiled, adding that only a phase had been completed.
He said: “As of now, the report showed that the marks of violence on the victim have nothing to do with her death. Other areas are still being explored. The actual thing that killed her has not been stated.”
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the police were yet to get the report.
According to her, “I just spoke with the people in charge now and they said the result is not complete yet. I will advise we exercise patience and caution. The police are also monitoring the case and we intend to get the report soon. This will be disclosed to the public.”
Vanguard, however, reports that the autopsy was inconclusive because the major pathologist was not in town.
It quotes a source as saying, “The major pathologist travelled. He will return soon to perfect the autopsy.
“Ordinarily, it takes between two to three days to get an autopsy report.
“Though, the bruises on the corpse did not establish that it led to her death.
“That is all we can say for now, until the boss returns any moment from now.”
