The Rotaract Club of Omole Golden carried out tree planting exercise on Wednesday in commemoration of the World Tree Planting Day and in accordance with the seventh Rotary’s area of focus – supporting the environment.
A total of 20 trees were planted at First African Church Mission Primary School, UNA Road, Iju-Ishaga, Lagos State (school 1 and 2).
Three species – umbrella tree, masquerade tree and fruit tree – were planted in consideration of their importance to man’s survival and for aesthetics.
The exercise kicked off at 11am as the Club President Rtr Michael Ugbede gave the opening remark and introduced participants to the headteachers of both school 1 and school 2.
Mr Ugbede who also doubles as project committee chairman explained the purpose of the tree planting exercise.
School 1 headteacher Kareem O.A appreciated the effort of the members and stated that the tree planting exercise will not only beautify the two schools but will also curb flooding which had been travailing the schools for a long time.
Everyone present took turns to plant trees at strategic locations.
In attendance were the headteachers of the schools, chairman of the school Adeshina A. (Aare of Iju-Ishaga Land), school secretary, counsellor Olusanya C.O., teachers, guests from Earth Festival Nigeria, Rotarian Busura Timilehin from Rotary Club of Iju Spring among others.
