Fuji music sensation Saheed Osupa has expressed his grief over the passing of Islamic singer Rukayat Gawat-Oyefeso, who was pronounced dead in the early hours of Tuesday.
Taking to his Instagram page, Saheed shared a tribute alongside a picture of the late singer, captioning it, “Rest In Power, my beloved sister @iamrukayatgawat.”
The news of her passing was first made public by Ilorin-based cleric, Alfa Aribidesi At-Tawdeeh, on his official Facebook page.
He expressed sorrow, writing, “Our sympathy goes to the family of Ruqayat Gawat for this great loss. May Allah forgive her shortcomings. RUQAYAT GAWAT IS GONE!”
Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on new media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and a relative of the deceased also confirmed the heartbreaking news.
He tweeted, “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return” (Quran 2:156).
Rukayat Gawat-Oyefeso will be laid to rest later today according to Islamic rites.
She is survived by her husband, Alhaji Shakiru Oyefeso.
Though the exact cause of her death has not been disclosed, her legacy as a beloved figure in Islamic music remains unshaken.
As fans and colleagues continue to mourn her, more details about her funeral are expected to emerge.
