Fuji star Saheed Osupa’s management has taken legal action against singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, over alleged copyright infringement.
In a statement on Thursday, Osupa’s team accused Portable of using the Fuji maestro’s lyrics without permission and failing to acknowledge him as the rightful owner.
“We’re addressing a pressing matter to clarify the situation and safeguard King Saheed Osupa’s rights. Recently, an individual with a history of causing trouble used King Osupa’s music without permission, failing to acknowledge him as the rightful owner,” the statement read in part.
The team noted that Osupa, who is signed to Sony Music Publishing Nigeria and represented by Digital Music Commerce and Exchange Ltd (DMCE), had his intellectual property rights monitored using advanced technology.
The findings reportedly revealed unauthorised use of his music by several artists. DMCE said it had resolved issues amicably with others except Portable, whom they accused of cyberbullying and tarnishing Osupa’s image.
“In response, King Saheed Osupa’s management has decided to take legal action to right this wrong and prevent future occurrences. We cannot stand idly by while our boss is disrespected,” the statement added.
The development follows Portable’s public apology to Osupa after referring to him as “big for nothing” amid the dispute.
Portable, 32, had lashed out after his song was removed from Apple Music and Spotify over alleged copyright infringement. The track reportedly contained a line from one of Osupa’s songs, prompting complaints from the Fuji star’s distribution team.
Following backlash on social media, Portable took to Instagram to express regret, blaming his outburst on his temper.
“It’s money that causes a fight. It’s money that destroys siblings’ relationships and causes a fight between father and son,” he said.
He went on to plead for forgiveness, referring to Osupa as his “daddy” and asking to be “abducted” as his child.
