Actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, better known as RMD, has recounted his last encounter with gospel singer Sammie Okposo before the latter’s death at 51.
Sammie slumped on Friday morning and was rushed to a hospital in Lekki where he was confirmed dead.
Reacting to the shocking death in an Instagram post on Friday afternoon, RMD posted a video of himself and Sammie in America where he promoted the latter’s gospel concert.
RMD noted that the video was filmed exactly a month ago in the US where they spent two weeks together and ‘fellowshipped as men’.
He wrote: “This was exactly a month ago in the US. We spent 2 weeks together and fellowshipped as men. Ate, drank and, as I’m known to do, teased you. Toks or Jedi would drive you to me and we would spend the entire day together. Made plans for the new year… yet here I’m struggling and looking for words to capture our relationship.
Speaking further, the 61-year-old who called Sammie by his pet name which he gave him also prayed that his soul rests in peace.
He wrote: “Sam Okpoooo as only me can call you, this was not the plan o. This one pain me enter blood. My Prayers are with your family as you Rest in power, peace and praise.”
The late singer was supposed to perform alongside other gospel singers, Eben, Chuks Praise, Joy Favour and Victor Edet at the Outpouring Assembly International in Calabar on Friday, November 25 to 27.
He, unfortunately, died hours before the event.
A few days before his shocking death, Sammie shared a message on his Instagram account where he talked about how he almost let go but God’s grace kept him.
He wrote: “I almost let go, you wouldn’t let me go. Devil thought he had me but God’s grace kept me. God’s grace kept me and will continue to keep me. What the enemy meant for evil, God blocked it.”
Sammie and his wife Ozioma celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary on July 1.
