Former emir of Kano Lamido Sanusi has begun studying for a doctorate degree in Islamic Law at the University of London, United Kingdom.
The economist told Premium Times on Monday that he is currently combining his academic responsibility at the University of Oxford with his new role as a PhD student.
Months after he was dethroned in 2020, Sanusi was granted a visiting fellowship at the African Studies Centre of the University of Oxford.
During his affiliation with the institution, the centre will require him to write a book on his experiences as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Before now, Sanusi had ties with the University of London. In 2019, he was awarded an honorary doctorate in finance at the varsity’s School of Oriental and African Studies.
Sanusi had in 1997 earned a second bachelor’s degree in Islamic studies and fiqh at the Africa International University in Khartoum, Sudan.
