Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has hailed visually impaired Victor Oteri for winning the Broadcaster of the Year Award at the 2024 Nigeria Media Merit Award (NMMA).
A statement by the governor’s spokesman Gboyega Akosile on Saturday said Mr congratulated all the winners at the award ceremony held on Sunday, December 15, describing their achievement as a reward for hard work and commitment to the media profession.
Sanwo-Olu said that with his accomplishments, Mr Oteri, who is the deputy director of programmes at Lagos Traffic Radio, has shown that disability won’t hinder ability.
QEDNG checks revealed this is the third time the University of Ibadan graduate has won the NMMA Broadcaster of the Year Award.
He has also won twice in another category, bringing his total NMMA haul to five.
Governor Sanwo-Olu commended all the journalists in the state-owned media who won awards in different categories of NMMA, as well as those who were nominated for one of the prestigious media awards in Nigeria.
He said the awards are well-deserved in recognition of the journalists’ professionalism and performances over time as the mirror of society.
The governor assured media practitioners that Lagos State, being the biggest home of the media in Nigeria, will always ensure press freedom and encourage the Fourth Estate of the Realm to play its critical role in democracy without any obstacle.
