Sanwo-Olu pays tributes to Herbert Wigwe on first posthumous birthday

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has paid tributes to the former group chief executive officer of Access Holdings Plc Herbert Wigwe on his first posthumous birthday.

Mr Wigwe, his wife Chizoba and first son Chizi died in a helicopter crash in Southern California, United States on February 9, 2024.

The former group chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), Abimbola Ogunbanjo, and two crew members who were also on the helicopter died.

Wigwe was born on August 15, 1966, in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

Sanwo-Olu said in a post on social media that he and Wigwe would have laughed together on the latter’s birthday were he alive.

“Today would have been Herbert’s 58th birthday, and we would have shared a laugh together. The pain of his loss is still so raw, but today, I choose to remember the man who was more than a brother and friend to me,” he wrote.

“Herbert’s wisdom, vision, and unwavering belief in Nigeria remain etched in our hearts. We miss you deeply, my brother.”

Sanwo-Olu noted that Wigwe was not just a leader but also a beacon of hope who inspired many.

“As we remember Herbert today, let us celebrate the incredible life he lived. Rest in peace, my dear brother. Your spirit lives on in every heart you touched,” he added.

The Lagos governor partook in Wigwe’s funeral.
