Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday night joined his predecessor Akinwunmi Ambode at the latter’s residence to celebrate his 60th birthday.
The governor’s media adviser Gboyega Akosile shared videos of Sanwo-Olu’s time at Ambode’s house on Instagram.
Sanwo-Olu made a toast to Ambode’s long life, good health and grace to serve his people if called in the future. The ex-governor and his wife Bolanle thanked Sanwo-Olu for stopping by, noting that the gesture was “pleasing to our hearts.”
Ambode was governor from 2015 to 2019.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) denied him a second term ticket, paving the way for Sanwo-Olu to emerge governor on the party’s platform.
Earlier in the day, Sanwo-Olu, in a congratulatory message, described the former governor as a seasoned administrator who contributed his knowledge and expertise to the growth of the public service in Lagos State.
He said Ambode contributed immensely as a former accountant-general as well as governor to the growth and development of Lagos in different capacities, especially in the finance sector.
“Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode dedicated his young and adult life to the service of Lagos State, first as a civil servant and later as the 14th governor of our dear Lagos State.
“As council treasurer, auditor general for local government, permanent secretary, ministry of finance and accountant-general of Lagos State, he displayed a high level of integrity, dedication and professionalism to service in the public sector,” he said.
