Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy Obafemi Hamzat have paid condolence visits to the families of Onyeka Onwenu, Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia, and Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.
Onyeka, known for her hit songs ‘You and I,’ ‘Iyogogo,’ and ‘Ekwe,’ among others, died on Tuesday night aged 72 after a performance in Lagos.
Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia’s daughter Aribemchukwu was found dead in front of the family’s residence at Parkview Estate, Ikoyi Lagos on Wednesday morning.
Iwuanyanwu, president-general of Igbo socio-cultural organisation Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, died aged 82 on July 25 after a brief illness.
Sanwo-Olu, Hamzat, the governor’s chief of staff Tayo Ayinde, media entrepreneur Bisi Olatilo and others were received by Onyeka’s sons Abraham and Tijani Ogunlende.
Posting photos of his visit on Saturday on social media, he said about Onyeka: “Her extraordinary life and the lasting impact she made with her timeless songs have solidified her legacy.
“The vibrant spirit she embodied and the joy she shared through her artistry will always remain in our hearts.”
On his visit to Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia and family, he said, “Losing a child is a profound tragedy that no parent should ever endure. My thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate this trying period.
“In moments like these, words often fall short, but I hope they find comfort in the love and support of those around them.”
The governor added that he was “warmly received by Chief Iwuanyanwu’s daughter, Dr. Mrs. Nwadiuto Iheakanwa, her husband Pastor Uche Anthony Iheakanwa, and other family members.”
