Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday paid a visit to the Super Eagles in Cameroon ahead of their Group D opener against Egypt at the 2021 AFCON.
Mr Sanwo-Olu said he met the team to pray with them and gear them up.
“We paid our team, the Super Eagles a quick visit before their match to pray with them. I also gave them a pep talk, and best wishes from Lagosians.
“I let them know we’re in high spirits just like they are, and looking forward to a great start at the competition,” he said in an Instagram post.
Team captain Ahmed Musa, who might be having his last AFCON outing, thanked the governor for his visit.
In another post, Sanwo-Olu wished the team strength, speed and agility of an eagle.
“Lagos and indeed the whole of Nigeria is rooting for them. We’re proud of them, and salute them for their dedication, hard work and resilience,” he said.
The governor added that “however the pendulum swings, they are and will always be our Champions.”
Nigeria will also play Sudan and debutants Guinea-Bissau in the remaining group games.
