Former Governor of Anambra, Peter Obi, on Thursday said he left enough money for his predecessor, Willie Obiano, because he (Obi) is not greedy.
The former governor spoke at the 10th Anniversary of the Anthony Cardinal Okogie Annual Lecture entitled “Creating a Corrupt-Free Society in Nigeria: The Role of the Church”.
Obi charged the church to be at the front in the fight against corruption, urging religious leaders to inculcate good morals and godliness in members of the church to enable them refuse unsolicited gifts from people with questionable characters.
“Stealing of public fund is more than corruption, it is greed. It is greed that will make a person to steal what he cannot finish spending.
“The silence of Nigerians is encouraging corruption. Nigerians can put a stop to corruption if they make it a habit to always speak out.
“During my tenure as governor, I was able to manage my state and save enough money for our successor because I am not corrupt,” said the former Anambra governor.
Obi played a major role in Obiano’s emergence as governor but both men are now bitter rivals over control of the state.
