Showmax’s first Nigerian original telenovela Wura has officially come to an end after airing its final episode on Tuesday, April 15.
The series, which premiered in January 2023, spanned three seasons and 260 episodes.
It followed the double life of Wura-Amoo Adeleke — portrayed by Scarlet Gomez — who juggled being a devoted wife and mother at home and a cold, calculating CEO at work.
This sharp contrast drove much of the show’s tension and ultimately shaped its dramatic conclusion.
In the final episode, secrets that had simmered beneath the surface were finally exposed, shaking up relationships and alliances.
True to form, the show didn’t offer a tidy resolution — instead, it leaned into the emotional fallout and moral ambiguity that had defined it from the beginning.
Adapted from the South African hit The River, Wura was localised to fit Nigerian culture and realities, set against the backdrop of gold mining in Iperindo, Osun State.
The show sometimes embraced melodrama, as telenovelas tend to do, but it also delivered grounded emotional storytelling that resonated with viewers.
The cast — including Yomi Fash-Lanso, Carol King, Ego Iheanacho, and Martha Ehinome — earned praise for their performances, while the show itself secured multiple nominations at the 2024 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
