National chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, is expected at the Lagos State High Court on Monday in a suit challenging the special congress of the party which produced Deji Doherty as Lagos State PDP chairman last November.
Justice Taofikat Oyekan-Abdullahi had summoned Mr Secondus and Senator Ben Obi who chaired the congress committee to appear before it for contempt of the court.
The judge summoned the duo to explain why they should not be imprisoned for defying his order halting the congress.
An order made by the court on November 12, 2019, called for the maintenance of status quo regarding the special election planned by the party to elect new executives in the state.
The embattled chairman of the party, Adegbola Dominic, and seven others had approached the court praying for an order to restrain the PDP and other members from conducting the special election scheduled for November 13, 2019.
Other claimants in the case include John Agbaje, Adeniyi Pakanu, Kehinde Oshinowo, Ademola Badejo, Fatai Ajisefunmi, Bidemi Akojenu and Taiwo Kuye.
Listed as defendants are the PDP, Ben Obi, Biodun Olujimi, Jarigbe Jarigbe, Danladi Tijo, Ahmed Mukthar and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
After entertaining submissions of counsels, the judge adjourned the matter to February 10, 2020, for hearing of order to show cause why Secondus and Obi should not be convicted for contempt of court.
