Security agents in Ondo State on Monday arrested two persons suspected to be members of a kidnap gang responsible for the abduction of people in Ondo State.
The suspects, Alhassan Salleh, 42, and Yahaya Yakubu, 24, are from Nasarawa and Kano states, respectively.
Ondo police spokesperson Femi Joseph said the suspects had abducted two victims at Shagari village, Akure, on Monday morning, but the security agents chased them into a bush, where they were arrested and the victims, Suleiman Ibrahim and Moshood Suleiman were set free.
“The victims were abducted in the early hours of today (Monday) at Shagari village in Akure, but they were immediately rescued at a village called Ijelu, via Owo.
“As soon as the kidnap occurred, all the security heads in the state, including the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adeyanju; Brigadier James Ataguba of the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army; Mr Pedro Ideba of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps; and Mr. S. Ayege of the Department of State Services contacted one another and raced to the scene.
“After an exchange of gunshots with the hoodlums, their efforts paid off as they did not only rescue the victims, but also arrested two of the suspects, as others escaped with gunshot injuries,” Mr Joseph said.
He added that efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects, while those apprehended were helping the security agents in their investigations.
