An assistant superintendent of customs, Nura Dahiru, on Monday stormed the office of the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Hameed Ali, with request for him to hand over.
Mr Dahiru walked into Ali’s office dressed in the rank of deputy comptroller-general (DCG) with claims that he was directed by President Muhammadu Buhari to assume the office of comptroller-general.
Sources told The Cable that the man was saluted by officers as he approached the CG’s office because he was wearing the DCG rank.
The man had sometime in May posted on Facebook that he had been appointed acting CG by Mr Buhari.
NCS spokesman, Joseph Attah, said Dahiru was not mentally stable when he took the action.
Mr Attah said a doctor was invited to examine the officer at the medical unit of the NCS.
“From questions and answers that followed, it was obvious that he was not in the right frame of mind, so a doctor was immediately invited. He is presently undergoing medical examination at the medical unit of the service,” he said.
