Abdulrasheed Bawa on Wednesday arrived at the Senate for his confirmation hearing following his nomination to head the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
If confirmed, Mr Bawa, 40, will be the youngest person ever to serve as chairman of the nation’s anti-corruption agency.
According to a letter President Muhammadu Buhari sent to the Senate, Bawa is a trained EFCC investigator with vast experience in the investigation and prosecution of advance fee fraud cases, official corruption, bank fraud, money laundering, and other economic crimes.
Bawa will also be the first core EFCC official and non-police officer to head the agency.
His appointment has, however, been met with criticism following allegations of corruption levelled against him by the previous EFCC leadership.
