Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State on Tuesday congratulated his immediate predecessor, Senator Bukola Saraki, on the latter’s emergence as Senate President and Chairman of the 8th National Assembly
“On behalf of the Government and People of Kwara State, I congratulate my leader, Distinguished Senator Bukola Saraki, the new Senate President and Chairman of the National Assembly,” the Governor said.
Ahmed served as Commissioner while Saraki was Kwara Governor and was handpicked by his boss to succeed him in Government House, Ilorin.
“His emergence not only reaffirms the supremacy of popular will, it also underlines our collective preference for a credible legislature and our confidence in Senator Bukola Saraki’s capacity and competence to lead it,” the Governor said further of his mentor’s triumph at the National Assembly.
Saraki, representing Kwara Central Senatorial District on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform, was elected unopposed by 57 of 108 senators, with 51 missing.
He was backed by minority APC senators and those of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), whose member, Ike Ekweremadu, was re-elected Deputy Senate President.
The APC has kicked against the results.
