Senator Abaribe tells Buhari to resign over insecurity

Senator-Enyinnaya-Abaribe

Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign over rising insecurity in the country.

The lawmaker spoke on Wednesday at the Senate during a discourse on a motion of national security challenges and restructuring the country’s security system.

Abaribe spoke first, criticising the president for saying he was surprised at the rising insecurity in the country.

Buhari had said on Tuesday that he was surprised about the growing insecurity but that his administration would go ‘harder’ on bandits.

“…If you want to treat an issue, you go to the head. We did not appoint the IG or the security chiefs. We will go to the president and ask him to resign,” Abaribe said.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan interrupted him and asked him to focus on tackling insecurity.

Abaribe, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), continued: “Nigerians voted APC because they promised to tackle insecurity but they have failed…”

Nasarawa senator, Abdullahi Adamu, rose to condemn Abaribe’s comments and demanded withdrawal.
