Former Senator representing Eket Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom State Nelson Effiong has been abducted in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital.
The former federal lawmaker was taken captive by three armed men at his lounge, a popular sit-out along Oron Road in Uyo.
It was reported that the gunmen arrived at the lounge at about 9:00pm on Sunday night and shot sporadically. Several persons were reported injured in the attack.
Eyewitnesses say Effiong was taken away in a Toyota Camry car.
In reaction to the incident, spokesperson of the police in Akwa Ibom Odiko Macdon said, “The command is in receipt of the report and investigation is ongoing to get to the root of the matter.”
