Police in Ekiti have arraigned a 74-year-old man, Adejare Agboola, for allegedly forging documents of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, Federal Ministry of Interior and Ekiti State House of Assembly.
Mr Agboola was arraigned before an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Police prosecutor, Johnson Okunade, told the court that the alleged offence was committed on November 14, 2018, in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the septuagenarian committed the offence alongside others at large after claiming to be members of the Disaster Rescue Support Agency, which they said was a registered organisation.
“The defendant and others at large forged a document claiming to have originated from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and presented it to Ekiti State Government to assist and generate fund for the state, knowing fully that the document was fake,” Mr Okunade said.
According to him, the offences contravened section 465 and punishable under section 467 of the Criminal Code Cap C77 Laws of Ekiti State 2012.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
Agboola, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
His counsel, Timi Omotosho, urged the court to grant him bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
Chief Magistrate Adesoji Adegboye granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned until August 30 for hearing.
