Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has apologised to Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, clarifying that he has no control over what social critic VeryDarkMan (VDM) shares on social media.
Seun made this statement on Friday on Instagram in response to Falana’s comment on Channels Television Politics Today where he stated that he has never spoken to crossdresser Bobrisky.
Falana vowed to take legal action against VDM stating that he would embark on civil proceedings to restore his integrity and that of his son Falz.
Recall that on September 24th, VeryDarkMan posted an audio clip allegedly featuring a conversation between Bobrisky and a male friend. In the audio, Bobrisky claimed that whilein Prison, Falz and his father Falana, tried to secure a presidential pardon for him in exchange for N10 million.
While analysing the audio, VDM criticised both Falz and his father for associating with Bobrisky and even went as far as questioning Falz’s sexual orientation.
Following the release of this video, Seun Kuti addressed the situation, stating that although he and VDM have a good relationship, he has no influence over VDM’s actions. He clarified that VDM had informed him about the audio clip but had never played it for him.
Seun stated that he had no intention to defame or insult Falana, who had been his late father, Fela Kuti’s lawyer.
“I deeply apologise if this offended Uncle Femi. It was never my intention. I do not want to be involved in any issues, especially against someone like Uncle Femi, with whom we have come a long way,” he stated.
Kuti also expressed his disapproval of people associating him with VDM’s posts.
“Am I VDM’s producer? Does he send me scripts for approval? I didn’t even know he was going to add innuendos in his video. Even if I had told him not to do it, he would have done it anyway,” he said.
