Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, has taken a swipe at former President Olusegun Obasanjo over the latter’s well-publicised letter to current President Muhammadu Buhari.
In the letter made public on Tuesday, Obasanjo told Buhari to dismount from government honourably at the end of his current term and not seek re-election.
The 80-year-old accused the incumbent of incompetence and nepotism.
Reacting in an Instagram post on Thursday, Seun asked Obasanjo how many letters he wrote late military Head of State, Gen Sani Abacha.
Obasanjo, it would be recalled, was charged with coup plotting and jailed by Abacha.
While not exonerating Buhari, who led a military regime in the 80s, Seun wondered if it was only civilians that are corrupt.
The Knitting Factory Records artiste queried “When will there be justice against the military elites at the top of the gangster corruption machine called Nigeria? When will Obasanjo, IBB, Buhari, TY Danjuma and the rest of them face justice for their atrocities?”
He added that the aforementioned retired generals should be “in the darkest part of the jail” and should not be bold enough to speak for the people they have “robbed, maimed and killed for sixty years”.
The Federal Government had through a message signed by Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, responded to Obasanjo’s harsh criticism in a non-combative manner.
Seun, like his father and older brother, Femi Kuti, has made a vocation out of criticising the rich and powerful.
