Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has addressed the warnings he has received over his support for the controversial social media influencer Martins Otse popularly known as VeryDarkMan.
On Tuesday, Seun took to Instagram Story to express his stance, emphasising his integrity.
“DEM SAY @VERYDARKMAN WILL BETRAY ME. I DON’T STEAL. THERE IS NOTHING TO FEAR.
“I DON’T DEFRAUD. THERE IS NOTHING TO FEAR,” Seun posted, assuring his followers that he has nothing to hide.
Previously, Seun publicly backed VeryDarkMan amidst the influencer’s controversy with actress Iyabo Ojo.
In his support, Seun described VeryDarkMan as a ‘necessity,’ acknowledging his role in tackling issues that Seun himself finds challenging to address.
Seun also voiced his disappointment with Paulo Okoye, Iyabo Ojo’s partner, for pressuring him to choose between their friendship and his support for VeryDarkMan.
“I have a good relationship with Paulo, but that doesn’t give him the right to order me publicly,” Seun stated.
He further justified his support for VeryDarkMan, saying, “For me, VeryDarkMan is a necessity. He can confront personal issues that I don’t know how to.”
“VeryDarkMan mobilises people against those who enable corrupt politicians and those with the spirit of politicians who use their influence to oppress the powerless,” Seun added.
