The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested seven of its officials for allegedly attempting to smuggle former Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT) chairman, AbdulRasheed Maina, out of its custody.
The operatives, along with a woman, Zainab Abbas, are being interrogated.

Maina is being detained by the EFCC over alleged N2.1 billion fraud.
According to The Nation, an official of the anti-graft agency alleged on Monday that Abbas visited Maina and coordinated the failed plot.
The official said the EFCC got wind of the plot on October 17.
The source was quoted saying that the woman was smuggled in with her phone which is contrary to the agency’s rule.
The seven EFCC operatives were said to be on duty when the incident occurred.

“She was alleged to be making efforts to procure some purported military personnel to execute the plan to get Maina out in a commando style,” the official was quoted saying.
The source also told the news platform that EFCC acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu, had ordered additional security measures around the facility where Maina is being held.
