No less than seven persons were killed on Saturday in a crash involving multiple vehicles on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway adjacent the old tollgate at Ota, Ogun State.
The crash involved a truck belonging to Dangote Group conveying cement, a space wagon and a Volkswagen passenger bus.
Irate mob protesting the incident have set ablaze the truck suspected to have caused the fatal crash.
A statement signed by the Public Education Officer, FRSC Ogun State Command, Florence Okpe, said members of the corps were at the scene and have contacted Fire Service to extinguish the inferno.
The statement said security and emergency agencies have been informed to assist in curtailing the situation.
The crash involved 17 people – six male adults, two male children, eight female adults and one female child.
The FRSC suspects the accidents were caused by speeding and mechanical deficiency.
Among the seven people who died were two male adults, three female adults, one male child and one female child.
The injured were taken to Ota General Hospital, while the corpses of the deceased have been deposited at Ifo General Hospital Morgue in Ogun State.
Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, Clement Oladele, has commiserated with the relations of the victims and again warned that the area the crash occurred is a black spot notorious for frequent crashes which have claimed over 40 lives in the last five years.
Mr Oladele called on motorists especially articulated vehicles to drive cautiously whenever using that section of the corridor.
He also advised passersby to desist from turning into mobs and willfully destroying properties.
