Senator Elisha Abbo representing Adamawa-North has been presented with another award, about a month after he appeared in a video assaulting a woman.
Abbo was presented the Excellence in Leadership award by the Royalty Academy Numan on its fifth anniversary.
The academy described Abbo as an outstanding young federal lawmaker who has distinguished himself in lawmaking.
Senator Abbo was in late July given the Icon of Democracy Award by the Intercommunity Awareness for Change and Development Initiative in Abuja.
The lawmaker appeared in a viral video early July assaulting a nursing mother who tried to defend an attendant, Bibra Warmate, at a sex toy shop in Abuja.
Presenting the award, the Royalty Academy said the senator’s humanitarian gesture across divides endeared him to the college.
Receiving the award on behalf of Abbo, his wife Jennifer thanked the school for honouring her husband with the excellence of leadership award.
She promised that her husband would partner with Adamawa governor, Umaru Fintiri, in promoting education across the state.
A Zuba Chief Magistrates’ Court Abuja will on August 20 begin Abbo’s trial.
The prosecution alleged that he slapped the complainant severally on her face and forcefully dragging her shirt without provocation.
