Singer Seyi Shay who is also a judge on Nigerian Idol has responded to the criticism from Nigerians on Twitter following her harsh criticism of a teenager during an audition.
Giving her comments to the boy’s performance, Seyi had said: “I can’t believe what I just heard. Who told you to come here and audition? Somebody lied to you, go back and tell that person they are not your friend, because that was not a good audition. You have a good talking voice and it comes out in your singing voice but your performance is terrible.
“You are never going to make money being a singer. I love you, you are so sweet but you are not a singer. If it’s for songwriting, hit me up and we’ll talk but that thing (singing) is not gonna work. Sorry, darling.”
The singer has been on the top of Twitter trends since Sunday night as Nigerians have continued to knock her for her comments to the boy.
Reacting to the criticism, Seyi tweeted late Sunday: “I’m feeling like #JudgeJudy right now. You either LOVE her OR you HATE her, and that’s quite ALRIGHT! Either way, Thanks for the #1 trend tweets.”
Many on social media have called on Nigerian Idol organisers to remove Seyi from her position as judge, saying they feel her comments could hurt the boy and many other youngsters who dream of making it to the show.
