Senator Shehu Sani has recounted how he escaped a rail accident following an attack by bandits on the Kaduna-Abuja railway.
Sani said in a tweet on Thursday that bandits had bombed and opened fire on the train along the rail on Wednesday.
“Yesterday, terrorists attacked the Kaduna-Abuja railway with an explosive and opened fire on the train, targeting the engine driver and the tank,” the former lawmaker tweeted on Thursday, adding that he and others managed to escape after the train ran over a damaged portion.
“This morning, I was on board when our train ran over another explosive damaged rail track. It took a miracle for us to escape,” Sani added.
Following the incident, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has suspended its service on the Abuja-Kaduna rail line.
The corporation said it is working to restore the service and will inform the public when the train starts running again.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, train services have been immediately suspended for the safety of our dear passengers. Efforts are in place to restore service. Further information would follow immediately, the service is restored,” the statement on its website read.
