House of Representatives’ member Shina Peller has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmaker, who represents Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency of Oyo State, said in social media posts on Friday that he was leaving the party due to its “style of democracy”.
“I’ve tried my best for APC, the party style of democracy in Oyo State kills my conscience and I have to put my people’s interest first. I’ve realized that the youths and the people at the grassroots will continue to be at the mercy of a few at the top,” the club owner said.
Peller noted that he would announce his new party next Tuesday.
“I’ll announce my new political party at the next seating of the House of Representatives on Tuesday 21st June 2022,” he said.
Peller added that as a lawmaker “who is driven by the collective interest of those that I represent, it’s unjust to be quiet in the face of injustice and the APC has not shown readiness to address issues raised.”
The legislator recently shut down rumour that he would be defecting from the APC after he lost the Oyo North senatorial ticket to Senator Fatai Buhari.
