A member of the House of Representatives from Oyo State Shina Peller has removed the flag of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from his office.
Peller, who is now a member of Accord Party, posted a video to Instagram on Monday, July 4 showing an aide removing the flag from a pole.
“There’s a time for everything. Big thank you to APC for the life experience. It’s time for a fresh beginning. We move. One Accord,” he said.
The lawmaker declared his new party on the floor of the House on Tuesday, June 21.
Announcing this on Twitter, he said: In Oyo State, the Accord Party is a force to reckon with, its internal democracy mechanism is intact, a component lacking in other parties. Accord Party is also strategic as it concerns balloting.
“On the ballot paper, Accord comes first before the two major parties. With Accord as our party, voting sensitization becomes easier for us to do.”
He added, “Today, I would like to inform the general public that I am now with the Accord party. The logo of the Accord constantly reminds me and other well-meaning Nigerians of their civic responsibility – to vote for credible leaders.”
Peller, who represents Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency of Oyo State, announced on June 17 he was leaving the APC due to its “style of democracy.”
“I’ve tried my best for APC, the party style of democracy in Oyo State kills my conscience and I have to put my people’s interest first. I’ve realized that the youths and the people at the grassroots will continue to be at the mercy of a few at the top,” the club owner said.
Before his departure from APC, the legislator shut down rumour he would dump the party after losing the Oyo North Senatorial ticket to Senator Fatai Buhari.
