Super Eagles forward, Alex Iwobi, has urged Arsenal fans to show embattled coach, Arsene Wenger, “a bit more respect”.
Wenger, 68, has come under increased pressure at the Emirates with the 2016/17 season seemingly looking like another futile campaign for the team.
This led some section of the fans to call on the Frenchman to end his 20-year spell at the end of the season.
But Iwobi, who made his breakthrough under the ex-Monaco gaffer last term, has begged the Gunner faithful to back the coach rather than ask for his sack.
“They need to have a bit more respect in my opinion,” the 20-year-old told Daily Mail after Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Senegal.
“I mean, he’s been at the club for 20 years, he’s achieved a lot, obviously they’re a bit impatient with the results and where they want to finish.
“We also want to finish there, we want to win the league like anyone else, I can guarantee we are trying our hardest.
“Whatever happens we are the players, we affect the result. We don’t really look at the banners or what fans are screaming, we focus on trying to do our jobs on the pitch.”
Wenger is expected to sign a new deal with Arsenal but insists that he will not announce his decision during this international break.
