Nigeria Under-23 head coach, Samson Siasia, says he is considering selecting Watford striker, Odion Ighalo, in his squad for this summer’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Ighalo, 26, has been a revelation thus far for the Hornets, scoring 14 goals in his debut campaign in the Barclays Premier League.
His exploits however hasn’t gone unnoticed with the former Granada man earmarked by Siasia as one out of three possible over-aged players for the tournament.
Coincidentally, it was Siasia who spotted Ighalo while he was relatively unknown and made him captain of the Flying Eagles team to the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in 2009.
Seven years after, the pair could reunite but this time at the Olympic games.
“We need him to score goals for us,” Siasia told The Sun.
“Odion is the only Super Eagles players playing and scoring goals in the Premiership.”
And Siasia who hailed the exceptional qualities of the striker, revealed that he will be invited to compete in Rio as long as he remains fit.
“Everybody is looking at him. He is a good boy, gentle and disciplined.
“I can tell you that if he is in good shape when we want to go to the tournament, he will of course be one of the players we want to pick. We need somebody like him to score for us.”
