Sometime in 2013, a young Nigerian student, Silas Adekunle, founded a tech company known as Reach Robotics.
One year on, his works gradually earned prominence yet he aimed for global recognition.
“We’re preparing Reach Robotics for the international market and hope to keep on expanding,” he told Bristol-based Techspark in 2014.
Four years after, Adekunle achieved just that.
The 26-year-old, credited for building the world’s first gaming robot, is rated the highest paid in the field of robotic engineering.
Adekunle achieved this feat after signing a new mega-deal with the world’s reputable software manufacturers, Apple Inc.
The robotics engineer was also named as “Someone to Watch in 2018” by the Black Hedge Fund Group.
Born in Lagos, Adekunle moved to the United Kingdom with his family at 11.
He then proceeded to the University of the West of England, opting for Robotics due to his
love for physics, biology and maths.
Adekunle headed several robotics programs and ultimately graduated with first class honours.
In 2017, he released the world’s first gaming robot, MekaMon, with the special ability to customise the gaming bot to perform personalised functions.
The initial launch of MekaMon sold 500 bots, generating $7.5 million, according to The Guardian.
Following this feat, Adekunle received support from various organisations including London Venture Partners ($10 million) and in the same year, his company, Reach Robotics signed a deal with Apple securing exclusive sales in Apple stores.
His UK-based company now has 32 full-time employees.
