Governor Aminu Tambuwal Thursday visited Hajiya Fatima Isa, popularly known as Dammu, the last Sokoto’s patient in hospital from the September 2015 hajj stampede in Saudi Arabia.
A statement signed by Tambuwal’s spokesman, Malam Imam Imam, said Dammu, who had been on admission at the East Jedda hospital in Saudi Arabia since the tragedy, is from Sokoto South Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
She survived the unfortunate incidence that claimed over 2000 lives globally. 274 Nigerians died from the incidence, with Dammu’s home state of Sokoto witnessing the death of 114 of its pilgrims.
While thanking God for her recovery from the injuries she sustained during the stampede, Tambuwal announced that the state government will provide her with needed medical care as soon as arrives home.
He also gave her a donation of N500,000 which his administration earlier announced to all the families of the victims of the stampede.
While narrating her story, Dammu said she’s a trader in Sokoto, and had saved enough funds to enable her undertake her first hajj last year.
According to doctors, she suffered from loss of memory and it took a while before Nigerian officials identified her among the victims at the hospital, and was eventually identified by her deep Sokoto Hausa accent.
While with her at the hospital, Tambuwal called her family members and she burst into tears from hearing their voices.
She’s expected back home in the coming days.
