Force spokesman Frank Mba has said that some #EndSARS protesters are “beneficiaries of criminal enterprises”.
Mr Mba stated this on Friday during an appearance on Channels TV breakfast show Sunrise Daily.
According to him, there are different people who are motivated by different reasons in the call for an end to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force which has been enmeshed in controversy.
Mba, however, admitted that there are people genuinely concerned about the infraction on people’s rights by SARS operatives.
“There is also another set of people who are also aiding the call for end of SARS. These are people who are beneficiaries of criminal enterprise. Some of them are probably people who are receiving stolen goods and who are into organised crimes such as arms smuggling, illicit arms movement, importation of drugs and other kinds of crimes,” he said.
Mba had told singer Naira Marley on Monday that the authorities are considering reforming SARS and other squads instead of terminating it completely.
