Some women enter Nollywood planning to sleep their way to fame – Jide Kosoko

Veteran actor Prince Jide Kosoko has weighed in on the persistent controversy surrounding sex-for-roles in Nollywood, stating that some women deliberately enter the industry with the intention of leveraging sexual relationships to rise to fame.

Speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast, Jide dismissed the notion that sexual demands in Nollywood are always imposed by producers or directors.

While acknowledging that such incidents may occur, he argued that some aspiring actresses willingly adopt this approach to advance their careers.

“If I said I need you to come and warm my bed so that I can give you this role, and you said, no, you don’t want to, they cannot force you to do it.

“If someone introduces something to you and you are not interested, say no. All these sex-for-role things, forget about it,” he said.

The actor further noted that the narrative around sex-for-roles is often exaggerated, insisting that individuals have the power to decline offers they find inappropriate.

“I know some ladies that equally come into the industry with the determination that, by the time ‘I sleep with this and sleep with that, I will get my name,’” he added.

Jide, who has been in the Nollywood industry for over five decades, is one of its most respected veterans.

He is also the father of two actresses, Bidemi Kosoko and Shola Kosoko, who have followed in his footsteps.
