Song and dance as FIFA president arrives Nigeria

FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, on Sunday arrived Nigeria on a two-day working visit.

The Swiss-born Italian administrator was given a royal welcome at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in the company of General Secretary, Fatma Samoura.

A 10–year old girl handed the FIFA boss a bouquet of flowers as he emerged from the arrival hall, and a cultural troupe entertained in the foreground as Infantino and Samoura walked on the red carpet to waiting cars.

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Amaju Pinnick, and 17 other African FA presidents were on ground to welcome the pair.

At the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Pinnick accompanied Infantino to the presidential suite. Meetings between the FIFA President and the NFF Board and with the visiting FA presidents from other African countries, as well as a cocktail dinner were on the programme for the night.

On Monday, Infantino and Samoura, alongside Sports Minister Solomon Dalung, chairmen of the Senate and House sports committees, NFF Board members and the visiting FA presidents from other African countries will pay a courtesy call on President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.

They are expected to grace the finals of the NFF/ZENITH Bank Future Eagles Championship at the Abuja National Stadium same day.

Infantino’s visit to Nigeria is his first to the West-African sub region and his second to Africa.

His other visit was in March to South Sudan as part of his 46th birthday.
