Sophia Momodu, the mother of singer Davido’s daughter, has reacted to the video of reality star Maria Chike promoting a skincare product.
The video which was uploaded on Maria’s Instagram page, captured her, a light-skinned woman, walking by the poolside with several dark-skinned men, women and children drooling as they admired her looks.
Reacting in an Instagram story on Thursday, Sophia questioned the message being passed in the video and the effect it will have on children.
Angered by the actions displayed in the video, she wrote: “Just to be clear, a naturally light-skinned woman is walking through a crowd of darker skinned people including children and they are all oohing and ah-ing at her beauty… And this is to sell a beaching product that literally has ‘white’ (So subtle btw) in the name?? Meanwhile, the entire cast apart from the lead character are all naturally dark-skinned people? Is this what we’re teaching our kids in 2022?
In another post, the mother of one wrote: “I don’t think dark-skinned people understand how beautiful they are tbh.. your favorite light-skinned, or do I say American celebrities ‘Tan’ constantly because they want your beautiful melanin. Dark-skinned children women and men do not need to be brainwashed into wanting to change their skin colour for any reason at all.”
“Love the skin you’re in. God knew what he was doing when he created you. People who bleach their skin are the most confused people to me..tbh if bleaching was so great why are you so ashamed of your knuckles and knees? Do you know that having clean healthy skin is better than having light skin?” she asked.
