Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress Omoyele Sowore on Thursday confronted Hamza Al-Mustapha, a former chief security officer to the late military dictator General Sani Abacha; and the vice-presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Kashim Shettima for taking the position of presidential candidates at the signing of the National Peace Accord in Abuja.
The presidential candidate of the APC Bola Tinubu, who is reported to be in London, was not present at the event.
Mr Sowore shared a video on Instagram of a brief conversation he had with Al-Mustapha.
In the video, the publisher of Sahara Reporters told Al-Mustapha that he was a students’ union leader when “you people were rampaging the country.” Sowore also said Tinubu should have been at the event, adding that he cannot run a country in absentia.
He captioned his post, “At the Presidential ‘Peace Accord’ signing in Abuja, I had to challenge Al-Mustapha Abacha henchman and Kashim Shettima who took the position of Presidential candidates because @officialABAT was nowhere to be found but organisers let him sit in front!”
Before the event, Sowore questioned the signing of a peace pact ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
“I don’t know why we’re signing this peace accord when we are not at war. This signifies that Nigeria is at war. Elections are a war in this country,” he said on Arise TV breakfast show.
